INTRODUCTION: In which the five W’s are answered: Who, What, Where, When, and WHY OH WHY?!

It’s been months in the making planning, researching, Google mapping, buying gear. We’re finally on our way. I’m Blue (yes, that’s my name. Well okay it’s my nickname.) and my husband, Craig, and I are at this very moment driving from St. Louis, where we live, to Washington D.C. to bike the C&O Canal Path and the Great Allegheny Passage over the next two weeks. Two weeks on bicycles is not much of a stretch for us. Craig and I live a bicycling lifestyle. A couple of years ago, we traded in our two gas guzzling SUV’s for one small econo-car and we both bicycle commute everywhere we possibly can. Craig bikes to work every day. I work at home as a website developer but I bike to most of my destinations. We are also runners, and head up the Ferguson Running Club which runs together every week and participates in local race events. So we’re in pretty good shape for middle-aged folks (Craig is 49 and I am 43).

We’ve trekked the entire Katy Trail the past two years. We are unsupported tourers and carry all our gear on our bikes. (I’ll post gear details on the next page for you fellow gear junkies.) This year we wanted a bigger challenge so we’ve scheduled our first ever TWO week vacation and we’re off!

We’ll spend a couple of days with Craig’s old Navy buddy and his wife in Columbus, OH. Then we’ll meet our first Warm Showers host, David, in D.C. where we’ll spend one night. He’ll be ‘hosting’ our car at his house over the next two weeks while we are touring. Thanks, David!!

STAY TUNED…
